As an English teacher, I have worked with many students who struggle to use the present perfect tense naturally in conversations and writing. Many learners understand grammar rules during lessons, but they become confused when they try to use the tense in real-life situations.
Over the years, I have noticed that grammar becomes much easier when students learn through stories instead of isolated exercises. Stories help learners understand how English is truly used in everyday life. They also make vocabulary, sentence patterns, and grammar structures easier to remember.
That is why I have created these present perfect stories. Each story uses natural English, realistic dialogue, and practical situations to help learners understand the present perfect tense more comfortably and confidently.
In these stories, you will see many useful present perfect examples such as:
- have visited
- has become
- have learned
- has worked
- have never seen
- has disappeared
- have been
- has been
- had been

Present Perfect Story 1: The Missing Passport
Emma has traveled to many countries before, but she has never experienced a day like this.
She arrived at the airport early in the morning because her flight to Spain was at 8:30. Everything seemed normal at first. She checked her suitcase, bought a coffee, and sat near the gate.
Then suddenly, she looked into her bag and froze.
Her passport was gone.
Emma immediately stood up and checked her backpack again. She opened every pocket carefully.
Nothing.
“I can’t believe this has happened,” she whispered nervously.
Emma has always been a careful traveler. She has visited more than ten countries, and she has never lost an important document before.
She quickly walked back through the airport. She checked the coffee shop, the security area, and even the bathroom.
Still nothing.
Then her phone rang.
“Hello?” Emma answered.
“Good morning,” a man said. “Have you lost a passport?”
Emma almost shouted with relief.
“Yes! Yes, I have!”
A worker at the security desk had found it near the coffee machine.
Ten minutes later, Emma finally held her passport in her hands again.
“I have learned something important today,” she said with a tired smile.
“What’s that?” the airport worker asked.
Emma laughed softly.
“I have learned to check my bag three times before sitting down.”
Present Perfect Story 2: The New Restaurant
Lucas and his best friend Mia have tried many restaurants in the city over the years.
They both love food, and every month they choose a new place to visit together.
Last weekend, Mia sent Lucas a message.
“Have you heard about the new Italian restaurant on King Street?” she asked.
Lucas replied immediately.
“No, I haven’t. Is it good?”
“Everyone has talked about it this week,” Mia wrote. “Let’s try it tonight.”
That evening, the restaurant was already full when they arrived.
“Wow,” Lucas said. “A lot of people have discovered this place already.”
They waited near the entrance for twenty minutes before finding a table.
The smell of fresh bread and pasta filled the room.
A waiter came over with menus.
“Have you visited us before?” he asked politely.
“No, we haven’t,” Mia answered.
“Then you should try the seafood pasta,” the waiter suggested. “It has become our most popular dish.”
Lucas smiled.
“You have convinced me already.”
When the food arrived, both of them became quiet for a moment.
“This is amazing,” Mia said after her first bite.
Lucas nodded slowly.
“I have eaten Italian food many times,” he admitted, “but this may be the best pasta I have ever tried.”
Before leaving, Mia looked around the busy restaurant and smiled.
“I think we have found our new favorite place.”
Present Perfect Story 3: The Online English Class
Oliver has studied English for almost three years.
At first, he learned slowly because he was afraid of making mistakes. He understood grammar rules, but he rarely spoke during lessons.
Last year, his teacher suggested joining an online English conversation class.
At first, Oliver felt nervous.
“I have never spoken English with strangers before,” he admitted.
But finally, he decided to try.
During his first class, students from different countries introduced themselves.
One student was from Brazil. Another student was from Japan. A woman from Türkiye talked about her job as a nurse.
Oliver listened carefully.
Slowly, he started feeling more comfortable.
Over the past few months, he has joined classes every week.
He has talked about travel, movies, music, food, and daily life.
He has even made a few international friends online.
Recently, his teacher has noticed a big improvement.
“You have become much more confident,” she told him.
Oliver smiled proudly.
“I still make mistakes,” he admitted, “but I have stopped being afraid of speaking.”
Now, Oliver has started thinking about traveling abroad one day.
“English has opened many doors for me,” he said.
Present Perfect Story 4: The New Café on Green Street
Yusuf has lived in London for almost six years, but until recently, he had never spoken much with his neighbors.
Most mornings, he left home early for work and returned late in the evening. His days had become repetitive, and he usually spent weekends alone watching movies or reading books.
Last month, however, something changed on Green Street.
A small café opened near Yusuf’s apartment building.
The café was called The Corner Lantern, and within a few weeks, many people in the neighborhood had started talking about it.
“Have you visited the new café yet?” his coworker Emma asked one afternoon.
Yusuf shook his head.
“No, I haven’t had time,” he replied.
Emma laughed.
“You always say that. You have worked too much lately.”
That evening, Yusuf finally decided to visit the café after work.
The place was warm and comfortable. Small yellow lights hung from the ceiling, soft music played quietly in the background, and the smell of fresh bread filled the air.
A young woman stood behind the counter.
“Good evening,” she said with a smile. “Have you visited us before?”
“No, I haven’t,” Yusuf answered.
“Then welcome,” she said kindly. “I’m Hannah.”
Yusuf ordered tea and sat near the window.
As he looked around, he noticed something unusual.
People were actually talking to each other.
Two older men were discussing football near the door. A university student was studying beside the bookshelf. A family with small children sat near the back of the café laughing together.
For the first time in a long while, Yusuf felt calm.
Over the next few weeks, he has returned to the café many times.
Sometimes he has worked on his laptop there. Other evenings, he has simply relaxed with tea and dessert after work.
Slowly, he has started recognizing familiar faces.
One rainy evening, Emma joined him after work.
“So,” she asked, smiling, “has this place become your favorite café yet?”
Yusuf laughed softly.
“Honestly, it has become much more than a café.”
Emma looked around curiously.
“What do you mean?”
Yusuf smiled as Hannah brought their drinks to the table.
“I think this place has reminded me that life feels better when people slow down and connect with each other.”
Emma nodded thoughtfully.
“That may be the smartest thing you have said all year.”
For the first time in months, Yusuf realized he had started feeling at home in the city again.
Present Perfect Story 5: The Football Match
Amina and her younger brother Adam have loved football since they were children.
Every weekend, they have watched matches together with their father in the living room. Their favorite team has changed many times over the years, but their love for football has never disappeared.
Last month, something exciting happened.
Their father surprised them with tickets to an important football match in Manchester.
“I have waited for this day for years,” Adam said excitedly after seeing the tickets.
Amina laughed.
“You have said that about every football match.”
Still, she was excited too.
On the morning of the match, the train station was already crowded with fans wearing colorful team scarves and jackets.
During the journey, Adam has talked nonstop about the players, the stadium, and the final score he expected.
“We haven’t even arrived yet,” Amina said jokingly, “and you have already celebrated three goals.”
When they finally entered the stadium, Adam became completely silent for a moment.
The lights were bright, thousands of fans were singing together, and the sound of drums echoed through the air.
“Wow,” he whispered. “I have never seen anything like this before.”
The match itself was exciting from the beginning.
Both teams played aggressively, and the crowd became louder every minute.
Near the end of the game, their team scored an incredible goal.
The entire stadium exploded with excitement.
Fans jumped, shouted, and hugged each other.
Even Amina, who usually stayed calm, started laughing loudly.
After the match, the three of them walked slowly through the busy streets outside the stadium.
Adam still looked amazed.
“This has been the best day of my life,” he said.
Their father smiled warmly.
“And we have finally watched a real match together.”
Amina looked at the happy faces around her.
“I think we have created a memory we’ll talk about for many years.”
As the train carried them home later that night, Adam was already talking about the next match they should watch together.
Some things never change.
