- More English Stories for Beginners
After teaching English for many years, I have noticed something very important: students learn faster when they enjoy what they read.
Many beginners try to memorize long vocabulary lists or difficult grammar rules, but they quickly forget them. Stories are different. Stories help learners connect English with emotions, pictures, people, and real situations. When students read interesting stories, they naturally remember new words and sentence patterns.
That is why I created these A1-level English stories. These stories are written especially for beginner English learners who want to improve their reading skills in a simple and enjoyable way.
In this article, you will read about:
- the life of Nikola Tesla,
- the history of the United States,
- and the mystery of the Pyramids of Egypt.
If you are looking for beginner English stories, reading practice, or English stories with vocabulary exercises, these lessons are perfect for you.

Story 1: The Life of Nikola Tesla

One dark night in Croatia, a young boy stood near a window and watched lightning in the sky.
While other children felt afraid of storms, Nikola Tesla felt curious.
“How does electricity work?” he asked his mother.
Tesla was born in 1856 in a small village in Croatia. His father was a priest, and his mother was very intelligent. She never went to school, but she could build small tools and fix things at home.
As a child, Tesla loved science and machines. He asked many questions and spent hours thinking about electricity.
Later, Tesla studied engineering in Austria. He was a brilliant student and learned many languages. He could speak English, German, French, and several others.
After finishing school, Tesla moved to the United States to work with another famous inventor: Thomas Edison.
At first, Tesla felt excited.
Edison already had a successful company, and many people respected him.
But Tesla and Edison had very different ideas about electricity.
Edison believed direct current (DC) was better.
Tesla believed alternating current (AC) was safer and more efficient.
The two inventors argued many times.
Finally, Tesla left Edison’s company and started working alone.
Life became difficult.
Sometimes Tesla did not have enough money. Some businessmen stole his ideas or refused to support his projects. But Tesla never stopped believing in science.
He invented the AC electricity system that people still use today. He also created the Tesla coil and experimented with wireless electricity.
Tesla dreamed about giving free energy to the world.
Many people thought his ideas were impossible.
Still, he continued working late at night in small laboratories filled with strange machines and bright electrical sparks.
Later in life, Tesla lived alone in a small hotel room.
He died in 1943, but today millions of people remember him as one of the greatest inventors in history.
His ideas changed the modern world forever.

Story 2: The Story of the USA

A long time ago, before large cities and tall buildings existed, many Native American tribes lived across America.
Some tribes lived near rivers. Others lived in forests, deserts, or mountains.
They hunted animals, grew food, built villages, and created rich cultures and traditions.
Life changed greatly after 1492.
That year, Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas while searching for a route to India.
After Columbus, many Europeans traveled to America.
New settlers built towns, farms, and colonies.
Over time, more people arrived from England, Spain, France, and other countries.
During the 1600s and 1700s, England controlled thirteen colonies in America.
The colonists worked hard, but many people became unhappy with British taxes and laws.
“Why should England control us?” some people asked.
Finally, in 1776, the colonies declared independence from England.
This started the American Revolution.
The war lasted several years.
In the end, the colonies won and created a new country: the United States of America.
George Washington became the first president.
The country continued growing quickly.
People from many different countries moved there looking for work, freedom, and new opportunities.
Railroads, schools, factories, and cities were built across the nation.
But America also faced serious problems.
One of the biggest issues was slavery.
Some people wanted slavery to continue, while others fought to end it.
This conflict caused the Civil War between 1861 and 1865.
After the war, slavery ended in the United States.
During the next century, America became one of the strongest countries in the world.
Today, the USA is known for its diverse population, modern technology, universities, music, movies, and global influence.
Its history is long, complex, and still changing today.

These tombs became the famous pyramids.
The largest pyramid is the Great Pyramid of Giza.
It was built for Pharaoh Khufu.
The pyramid was made from enormous blocks of stone.
Building it was extremely difficult.
Thousands of workers carried heavy stones under the hot Egyptian sun.
Historians believe construction took many years.
Inside the pyramids, Egyptians placed treasures such as gold, jewelry, clothing, furniture, and food.
They believed the pharaoh would need these things in the afterlife.
The walls were covered with colorful paintings and symbols.
These pictures told stories about the king’s life and journey after death.
The Egyptians also tried to protect the pyramids.
They created secret passages, hidden rooms, and traps to stop thieves.
Still, many tombs were robbed over time.
Some treasures disappeared forever.
One famous discovery was the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
When archaeologists opened it, they found many beautiful treasures still inside.
